D’Angelo is the latest star to honor Prince, the music icon who died last week at the age of 57

The singer delivered a soulful and touching tribute to the late, great music icon on “The Tonight Show” yesterday with a little help from Princess, Maya Rudolph and Gretchen Lieberum’s Prince cover band.

Dressed in Prince garb — a furry coat, hat and even curled locks of hair — the R&B singer performed a pitch-perfect cover of “Sometimes It Snows in April.” Toward the end of the song, D’Angelo gets overwhelmed with emotion and even appears to shed a few tears.

As an artist, D’Angelo has no doubt been hugely influenced by Prince. His 2000 song, “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” was considered a tribute to the “Purple Rain” singer, evoking his early ballads. D’Angelo also sampled the drums from Prince’s “Africa” and covered the B-side “She’s Always in My Hair.”
