Shy, stray wolf-dog refuses to leave corner, then he meets her and finds true love
Everyone needs that special someone to bring them out of their shell. Whether that’s a partner or a good friend, if you’ve found someone to help you come out of that shell, consider yourself extremely lucky. This not-so-little dog was found wandering the streets of Los Angeles. It soon became apparent that this was no ordinary stray, Castiel was a wolf-dog hybrid, a breed of dog that faced a high rate of being euthanized due to shelters being unable to accommodate to their special needs. Colorado’s W.O.L.F Sanctuary, a rescue specializing in wolves and wolf-dog hybrids, stepped in to save the day, taking Castiel in. However, he had another obstacle to overcome: Castiel was so shy that it was impossible to find him a forever home.

They began slowly, transferring him to an infirmary attached to W.O.L.F’s director’s home. It was obvious that he had been on his own for a very long time. The rescue staff didn’t even know if he had previously lived with humans or not. Castiel stayed only in the corners of his space. He would shy away from any kind of contact – human or canine, preferring to stay on the perimeters.
Bit by bit, Castiel began to relax and acclimate to his new surroundings. He began getting used to the select group of people around him everyday. Director Michelle Proulx noticed he began showing more and more interest in the other dogs surrounding him.
They saw an opportunity in his interest. If they could find the right canine companion for Castiel, they could begin making moves for his forever home. The staff knew that another wolf-dog hybrid would be ideal as a companion. Fearing a long, arduous search, they were surprised when their call for help was quickly answered in the form of 3-year-old Tenali, a female wolf-dog hybrid in Wisconsin. Gray Wolf Wolfdog Rescue was more than happy to oblige, telling them that she was a real sweetheart.
At first, Castiel seemed a little intimidated by this new canine. He went from being completely isolated to being the sole object of Tenali’s affections. Being much better adjusted, Tenali was able to read the situation and backed off her new friend for a little bit. She could wait.
However, it wasn’t long until Castiel began reciprocating her friendly advances, realizing that Tenali wasn’t going to hurt him. The pair began bonding day by day, eventually forming a little wolf pack of two. Castiel finally found someone to get him out of his shell. Hopefully this means that this duo is well on their way to a loving home.
