Marine Dad Dresses Son In A Costume, But It’s Not Halloween. The Reason Why? Touching
Staff Sgt. John York and his son Bryson share an unmistakeable bond. Even a couple hours away from his dad leaves Bryson counting the minutes until he returns. According to Sgt. York’s wife, Priscilla, “If this happens when his dad leaves for just a few hours, I can only imagine how hard it’s going to be when he leaves for deployment.”
Since having his son, this is the first time that Sgt. York would be away from Bryson. So just 10 days before Sgt. York was getting ready to leave his son and deploy, he decided to go all out to make the last moments count.
York decided to pack all of his son’s favorite major holidays into a few days so that he wouldn’t miss out on Bryson’s best childhood moments. First he started with halloween a little early. Little Bryson dressed up in his “Paw Patrol” costume and went trick or treating around the neighborhood with his dad.
According to Priscilla, “[John] went to every neighbor’s house on the block and he had candy that he handed to them so they’d be ready when Bryson rang the doorbell,” Priscilla said. “He brought candy to each of their houses if they were home. The neighbors were so great about it.”
Looks like Sgt. York’s got it covered.
Next, Bryson was surprised to wake up only to realize that his christmas tree was all set up, with presents and everything all ready to go. The kind-hearted marine even got Santa Claus to come early!
“He just woke and Santa came. He was just so taken aback,” said Priscilla. “He was like, ‘What’s going on? Why is the Christmas tree up?’ He was so excited.”
Bryson’s 10 days of excitement didn’t end there. He even got to celebrate early his birthday with his dad.
Bryson got a brand new bike for his birthday and even got to ride around on it with his dad.
For being such a loving father, Priscilla decided to capture special moments from his 10 days of father-son time on her video camera. She created a video out of it and surprised Sgt. York.
“He didn’t know I was making the video and when I showed it to him I think he watched it 1,000 times over and over and over again,” said Priscilla. “I had to portray it the way it was meant to be felt. The video made his vision comes to life in a way he didn’t expect. I think the whole process meant more to him knowing that it was recorded like that.”
The video was a surprising yet heartwarming father’s day gift for her husband.
