Teen Poses For The Cameras On Prom Night, But Look At The Officers Surrounding Her…

Two years after Officer Charlie Kondek was shot and killed during a routine call, his brothers in blue came together to escort the fallen police officer’s daughter to her senior prom.

“It’s our responsibility and our honor to stand in for Charlie. Charlie would be here and he’s not able to be here. So we want to be here for Charlie and for Aleena,” said Major Jeff Young with Tarpon Springs Police. “Sad, because we have to be here. Honored, because we can be here.”

The overwhelming support for the young woman on her prom night was a moving event, according to a Fox 13 report. It was a remarkable way for the policemen and women of Tarpon Springs to be there for a member of the community.

The show of support from the officers also came as a surprise for Aleena Kondek, a senior at River Ridge High School. After getting of the bus at her prom, she had no idea that her dad’s old partners would be there. She said that she appreciated that the men in blue could step in and assume the role of her dad for an important night in her life.

“They always say, ‘Never forgotten,’ and I totally believe that,’” Aleena said. “They’re always texting me, ‘How are you doing?’ and they step in with things that my dad did, and they’re amazing. I love each and every one of them.”

Many officers were unable to hold back tears on the emotional night. They had fond memories of nights on the job with Officer Kondek. The officers hugged Aleena and took pictures before she went off for the night. It was an important moment for them as well, because many of them support Aleena often by checking in on her.

Aleena says she was proud to have her second family by her side. She also felt like her dad was there watching, too.

“I know he’s always with me. I just kept smiling all day because I know he’s watching down and I know he’s probably tearing up watching me,” she said.
