Press Association

A mother and daughter are believed to be the victims of a double killing, as detectives wait to question a man arrested on suspicion of murder.

The bodies of the women were found at a house in Cathedral Road in the Anfield area of Liverpool at around 9.50am today, after police were called.

Shocked locals said the dead women are a mother and her daughter, aged 25.

A 42-year-old man was arrested at a house in a nearby street after police broke down the door.

Police have not yet confirmed the identity of either woman or how they died, describing the deaths as “unexplained”. A post-mortem examination is yet to take place.

Loved ones of the women arrived at the street this morning to be greeted by a heavy police presence and forensic investigators in boiler suits.

Several family members, apparently only just finding out the news, stood in tears, one woman running down the street with her head in her hands, while others stood hugging each other and crying in silence.

They were ushered into police cars before being driven away.

Locals said the younger woman looked after her mother as her carer, and was seen regularly walking her dog, Tyson, a Staffordshire Bull terrier.

Locals said the dog had also been killed.

Samantha Parkin, 25, the younger woman’s friend, said she was in contact with her last night via Instagram.

Ms Parkin, who broke down in tears, said: “She stopped messaging me last night about half seven.

“She was bubbly, she was funny, she was dozy, she was kind.

“She would do anything for anyone. She loved everyone who came into contact with her.

“It’s the worst thing that has ever happened to me. I’m going to miss her.”

Ellie Bleasdale added: “She was a lovely girl – wouldn’t hurt a fly, a sound girl.”

In a statement, Merseyside Police said: “Merseyside Police can confirm that detectives have arrested a man in relation to two unexplained deaths in the Anfield area.

“At 9.50am this morning, Monday June 13, a call was received about a concern for the safety of two women at a house in Cathedral Road, Anfield.

“Patrols attended and two bodies were found at the address.

“A 42-year-old man from the Anfield area has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody, where he will be questioned by officers.

“A Home Office post-mortem will take place to determine the causes of death for both women.

“The police investigation is in its very early stages.”
