Man wielding rock shot by Dallas cops outside Love Field airport
A man wielding a rock was shot by Dallas cops at Love Field airport on Friday following a domestic disturbance with his ex-girlfriend, authorities said.
The Maryland native, identified by cops as 29-year-old Shawn Nicholas Diamond, caused mayhem in Dallas while he was in town visiting the mother of his children which culminated when he starting throwing large rocks at the woman’s car when she dropped him off at the airport.
An airport police officer responding to the domestic dispute fired nine shots at Diamond after he egged the cop on by saying “shoot me shoot me, I dare you,” according to what witness Lucinda Fonseca told local affilate WFAA.

Diamond arrived in Dallas on Monday after leaving his job in Edgewood, MD to visit his ex-girlfriend, who he has kids with. On Tuesday, he was charged with criminal mischief after pummeling $3,700-worth of city-owned trees while driving recklessly, Carrollton police spokeswoman Jolene DeVito said.

Diamond was booked at the Denton County Jail and released on bond Friday. His former girlfriend picked him up from jail and took him straight to the airport, where the domestic dispute sparked.
The belligerent Maryland man is seen on airport surveillance video bashing a traffic cone into the back windshield of the woman’s car as she tries to remove bags from the vehicle. Diamond then grabs a large rock from a nearby landscaping and breaks the car’s other windows.

When a police officer arrives, Diamond lunges at the cop with the large rock in his hand. The police officer fires at him, striking him four times, according to authorities.
Diamond was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, where he was in stable condition.

Passengers at Love Field in Dallas had to be rescreened following Friday’s shooting.

The police officer who fired at Diamond was removed from patrol duty pending an internal review, but “the video is pretty telling,” Dallas Police Chief David Brown told an NBC affiliate.
People were seen streaming out of the airport on Friday afternoon following hours-long delays. Some travelers were on airplanes when the shooting took place but were ordered off when the terminal was cleared. TSA officials were estimating it would take five hours to get through security.
“Right now we’re going to have to empty the terminal, sweep it to make sure it’s empty and rescreen them,” Dallas’ Director of Aviation Mark Duebner told the Dallas Morning News. “It doesn’t take too long to get people out of the airport. It’s a question of how long it will take TSA to get everyone rescreened.”
