Contestants, judges chosen for 'Cleveland Hustles,' LeBron James' CNBC reality show
CLEVELAND, Ohio — James Beard award-winning chef Jonathon Sawyer is among the four judges who will appear on “Cleveland Hustles,” the CNBC reality show produced by LeBron James and Maverick Carter.
The premise of the show, premiering on Aug. 24 at 10 p.m., combines elements of “Shark Tank,” “Restaurant Startup” and “The Apprentice.” It follows the journey of eight entrepreneurs who are given “the chance to realize their own dreams while also helping to revitalize a neighborhood in Cleveland,” according to the show’s website.
The eight groups of entrepreneurs will be mentored by four investors, who will put them through a series of tests before deciding on the four businesses that will be given the opportunity and financial backing to open a storefront in the Gordon Square Arts District.
“This show is special to me because it’s about giving hard-working people a life-changing opportunity to make their dreams a reality while creating real change in the Cleveland community,” Carter said in a release. “It’s a transformational series that can lift up all of Northeast Ohio and one that will resonate with people across the country.”
Sawyer, whose restaurants include Greenhouse Tavern and Trentina, will be joined on the investor panel by Kumar Arora, CEO of Aroridex, Ltd., certified private wealth advisor Kathy Futey and advertising executive turned neighborhood developer Alan Glazen.
Each investor will mentor two businesses each. The companies vying for their own brick-and-mortar stores are:
Old City Soda (Sean Adkins and Mike Gulley)
Randy’s Pickles (Andrew Rainey)
Styles of Success (Chareen Fountain)
The Cleveland Bagel Co. (Geoff Hardman & Dan Herbst)
The Proper Pig (Ted Dupaski and Shane Vidovic)
Groundswell (Anne Harnett)
FOUNT (Jaclyn & Phillip Wachter)
Akron Honey Co. (Brent Wesley)
B. Bonin Bough, chief Media and eCommerce officer at Mondelez International, serves as the show’s host.
“Cleveland Hustles” is produced by James and Carter’s SpringHill Entertainment and Magical Elves. While the Cavaliers superstar won’t appear regularly, he will make a cameo.
