Cleveland Cavs, Browns, Indians items sell at auction
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Lelands auction that included Cleveland Cavaliers, Browns and Indians items has ended, with several pieces of memorabilia selling.
About the Cleveland items
Jim Brown’s retirement letter to Art Modell and baseballs signed by former Indians pitcher Gaylord Perry were popular sellers. All of these Cleveland items met their reserve price – that is, the minimum bidding amount in order for the item to be sold.
The auction’s highlight was the Jim Craig “Miracle on Ice” Collection, which included the U.S. goalie’s gold medal from the 1980 Lake Placid games, the jersey he wore during the upset of the Soviets, and the U.S. flag he draped around his shoulders after the gold-medal victory over Finland. Each had a reserve price of $100,000; none of those sold.
But other Craig items did sell, including the mask he wore against the Soviets, which had a reserve of $25,000 and went for $114,874.30.
