Tenn. U.S. House candidate wants to 'Make America White Again'

A clueless Tennessee political candidate has trumped Trump.

U.S. House candidate Rick Tyler told voters in Tennessee that he wants to “Make America White Again” on a campaign billboard, and then was forced to take the white supremacist message down after backlash.

Before dismantling the billboard on the side of a Polk County highway, he defended the spiteful slogan saying he believed “a majority of the people in the county like it,” according to WSMV.

When local station WSMV told the candidate that they received numerous outraged calls about the billboard, Tyler said he has nothing against “people of color” but that the slogan reflects his own nonsense nostalgia for a whitewashed 1960s, including “Ozzie and Harriet, Leave it to Beaver time when there were no break-ins; no violent crime; no mass immigration.”

The Congressional candidate erected a second sign on Polk County’s Highway 64 displaying a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous “I Have a Dream” quote written over a White House surrounded by Confederate Flags, WSMV reported.

Social media reports say that the “Make America White Again” sign had been taken down after public outcry. “Never should have been there in the first place, but at least it’s gone,” Amy Hines Woody posted to Facebook.

Woody railed against the hateful message along with a photo of the billboard.

“I am so enraged I can barely express myself without copious amounts of profanity,” Woody wrote.

“This disgusting bunch of bigotry was erected about 20 minutes from our house,” the post read, before encouraging people to boycott a restaurant she says is owned by Tyler, the Whitewater Grill in Ocoee, Tenn.

Tyler’s billboard is inspired by presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again,” a slogan many have already interpreted to have racist undertones. The bombastic billionaire’s anti-immigrant rhetoric has attracted the support of other hate-mongering figures like former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke.

Tyler posted to his campaign website — which has been taken down — that he thought the billboard would “make a major splash.”

“The Make America White Again billboard advertisement will cut to the very core and marrow of what plagues us as a nation. As Anne Coulter so effectively elucidates in her book, Adios America, the overhaul of America’s immigration law in the 1960’s has placed us on an inevitable course of demise and destruction. Yes the cunning globalist/Marxist social engineers have succeeded in destroying that great bulwark against statist tyranny the white American super majority. Without its expedited restoration little hope remains for the nation as a whole,” Tyler wrote, according to News Channel 9.

Tyler is running as an independent candidate for Tennessee’s 3rd Congressional District, a seat currently held by Republican Chuck Fleischmann. He lost in a 2014 U.S. Senate race, only getting 0.4% of the vote, according to Ballotpedia.
