This Dog With Major OCD Will Make You Feel Better About Your Neuroses

Meet Stanley, a sweet yet distinctly unusual Golden Retriever.

Stanley isn’t like other dogs. He’s an adopted pup from Florida, and it didn’t take long for his new family to recognize that was a little erm…unique. What tipped them off? The first time meeting Staney, he was sleeping on top of his foster family’s dining room table.

Stanley’s strange tendencies make your habitual checking of the deadbolt seem like average behavior.

For starters—every evening, just after dinner, Stanely trots to the little girl’s bedroom and snatches the same bunny pillow from her bed. He carries in confidant in his mouth for hours—even while going potty. After a while, he gets tired and lays down on his bunny friend.

This weird train is just leaving the station.

In addition to his post-dinner bunny ritual, every day Stanley collects three of the exact same household items, carries them up the stairs and places them under the guest room bed. If he can’t locate the remote control,  pink stuffed Care Bear and grey slipper, he becomes visibly distressed. He paces around the house desperately searching for the missing piece of the puzzle. He just can’t move on with his day until he’s able to place the item in it’s rightful place. The family now ensures these items are left out where he can find them.

After years of strange habits and behavior, Stanley’s mother wondered about his mental health.

She found a three-step online IQ quiz and put Stanely to the test.

Test #1: Call out the dog’s name to see if/how it responds.

Welp, that didn’t work. After five years, Stanley still doesn’t respond to his name. The vet confirmed that his hearing is perfectly fine—Stanley simply doesn’t give a damn. Stanley is goals.

Test #2: Cover the dog with a blanket and see how it reacts.

According to the quiz, your average dog will buck wildly in an attempt to break free of the cover. Stanley, on the other hand, just continued on with his day per usual.

Step #3: Show the dog a treat then, while it’s watching, place a cup over the treat and see how he reacts.

The dog is expected to paw at the cup until they’re able to knock it over and retrieve the treat. Stanley, however…

So, maybe Stanley reserves his brain power for the more important things in life (like Care Bears).

The important thing is that he has a loving, accepting family who cares deeply for him.

His mom wrote on Imgur:

“If my dog was human, he would probably be riding the short bus. But he’s become a wonderful part of our family and we will always love him… No matter what.”
