Trump insists Don King gave endorsement who denies it at first

Both of these Dons have bad hair — and at least one of them is a liar.

Boxing promoter Don King, who told the Daily News Friday he hadn’t endorsed Donald Trump, flip-flopped a day later and said he was behind the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

King, who was in Louisville Friday for Muhammad Ali’s funeral, told The News — on videotape — that he hadn’t given his blessing to the casino tycoon.

“No,” he said on the video. “I’m endorsing the people. I’m not a Republican or a Democrat, I’m a Republicrat, and I go with the will of the people.”

But by Saturday he was talking from the other side of his mouth, trying to recast his words.

“Yes, I endorsed Donald Trump,” he told USA Today. “(The News) said I didn’t because when … asked, ‘Did you endorse Donald Trump today?’ . . . I said, ‘I endorsed the American people.’ ”

King’s muddled message followed 24 hours of Trump insisting he had secured the wild-haired promoter’s backing.

“The great boxing promoter, Don King, just endorsed me. Nice!” Trump tweeted Friday.

After The News’ got King on tape denying it, Trump doubled down.

“I get a call yesterday, as an example — street-smart guy, smart guy, but very street-smart — Don King, you know Don King, the boxing promoter,” Trump said at a Tampa rally.

“And Don King said, ‘Donald, I am endorsing you for President.’ You think Don King, and he knows me well, is going to endorse a racist?”

King and Trump are no strangers, and the idea of the boxing promoter backing the billionaire isn’t all that farfetched. The pair have known one another since before Trump’s Atlantic City casinos went belly up and King was involved in the big title fights.

Trump has been on the defensive recently following criticism of his explosive attacks on a federal judge’s heritage. He claims California Federal Judge Gonzalo Curiel, who is presiding over lawsuits involving Trump University, has treated him unfairly because he is Mexican-American.
