Casablanca actress Madeleine Lebeau has died aged 92, her family has confirmed.
The French star – who was believed to have been the last surviving cast member of the 1942 classic – passed away earlier this month in Estepona, Spain.
Her stepson – filmmaker Carlo Alberto Pinelli – revealed the sad news to the Hollywood Reporter , confirming that she died on May 1.
She was best known for her role as Humphrey Bogart ‘s jilted lover Yvonne in the Warner Bros. movie.
Lebeau also starred in Cage of Gold in 1950
In a famous movie moment, she was seen welling up and shouting ‘Viva La France’ as clients in Rick’s Cafe defiantly sang La Marseillaise to drown out German soldiers.
The Parisian star was born in 1923, and fled Nazi-occupied France 17 years later with her then-husband Marcel Dalio.
Lebeau enjoyed a successful film career
Both appeared in Casablanca after ending up in Hollywood, and Lebeau returned to France when the war ended.
In the legendary film, Bogart played an American cafe owner in Morocco, which was a French territory controlled by the Nazis.
