Game Of Thrones’ Kit Harington slams sexism towards attractive actors

Star adds he would quit the industry if he felt he was advancing on his appearance alone

Game Of Thrones star Kit Harington has spoken out about sexism towards men in the film industry, saying there is a “double standard”.

The actor, who plays Jon Snow in the television series, said he would give up his career if he thought he was cast on the basis of his looks rather than his talent.

Kit said he recognised his look may have helped his career in some ways, but he told the Sunday Times magazine he has at some points felt a victim of sexism.

He said: “There’s definitely a sexism in our industry that happens towards women, and there is towards men as well.

“At some points during photoshoots when I’m asked to strip down, I felt that. If I felt I was being employed just for my looks, I’d stop acting.”

The 29-year-old actor said he felt “lucky” to be part of Game Of Thrones and will “love it forever” for the opportunities it has given him.

Speaking about his relationship with former co-star Rose Leslie, who played his love interest in the series, he described it as “easy” to fall for her.

Last month Rose was one of a number of former co-stars in the audience to see him make his West End return as Doctor Faustus.
