News of James McAvoy and Anne-Marie Duff splitting up rocked the showbiz world.

The pairing were thought to be one of the strongest couples in showbiz, with their silence over their marriage exuding a confidence in their relationship.

They first met while working on Shameless in 2003, in which Duff played the love interest of her future husband’s character. Anne-Marie played Fiona, all peroxide hair and tarty Gypsy earrings, while James played Steve.

Ironically, Anne-Marie almost turned down Shameless (which went on to run for 11 series) – it was only after her mother read the script that she was convinced.

Scenes between the pair bristled with sexual chemistry and it was soon revealed they were dating in real-life. But both said they would never talk about their marriage on red carpets or in interviews.
