Red Hot Chili Peppers cancel gig as singer Anthony Kiedis rushed to hospital

The Red Hot Chili Peppers were forced to pull out of a gig after lead singer Anthony Kiedis was rushed to hospital on Saturday afternoon.


The Californication rockers were forced to cancel their Weenie Roast gig.


The 53-year-old singer was taken away in an ambulance due to “extreme stomach pains” shortly before the band headlined KROQ’s annual festival, Billboard reported .


According to ABC News Bassist Flea cited a “medical thing” when addressing a packed crowd at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre in Irvine, California, alongside the remaining Peppers.


Weezer were moved up the bill as a replacement.

“We are devastated about it,” said Flea.


“We live to rock, we live to f***ing kick deep into the depths of our hearts and rock, but unfortunately there’s a medical thing that happened and we need to deal with it.”



The band have been announced as headliners for this year’s Reading and Leeds Festival .

It comes as organisers announced the first acts for the dual-site August 2016 event, and promised it would be the “best year yet”.


The band – consisting of Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith and Josh Klinghoffer – have previously topped the bill in 1994, 1999 and 2007.
