CLEVELAND, Ohio — LeBron James congratulated his apparently former Cavs teammate Timofey Mozgov on the 7-1 center’s new deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.
“Congrats to my brother Big fella Mozzie on the deal with the Lakers!! Enjoy LA. Dinner on you,” James said via Twitter, likely from the yacht where he is vacationing off the coast of Spain with friends Dwyane Wade and Chris Paul.
Mozgov, a free agent, agreed to a four-year, $64 million deal with the Lakers, according to The Vertical. Free agents could begin negotiating with potential suitors at midnight on July 1, but cannot sign their new contracts until July 7.

James, of course, is a free agent too, though he has already declared his intention to return to the Cavs to defend their 2016 NBA championship. James is weighing whether to sign another one-year deal with Cleveland for $27.5 million, or perhaps enter into a multiyear agreement that would pay him nearly $31 million in the first year.
James has a home in Los Angeles, and could collect on that dinner from Mozgov as early as this summer. Cavs general manager David Griffin often tells the story of James’ spirits being lifted in January, 2015, when Mozgov first joined the Cavs after being traded from Denver.
The Cavs were engulfed in a losing streak at the time, James was out with nagging injuries, and the team lacked a rim protector like Mozgov.
The Cavs again lack that rim protector, but Mozgov hardly played in the playoffs while the team fought its way to the franchise’s first NBA championship. Mozgov was a key player in Cleveland’s 2015 run to the Finals, which ended in defeat.
