This Floral Artist Makes ‘Living Jewelry’ Out Of Succulents
And it’s 🌿 absolutely 🌸 ethereal. 🌿
Often jewelry lives a few lives as it’s passed down from family member to family member. But jewelry made by floral designer Susan McLeary lives a different kind of second life.
McLeary makes her unique statement jewelry pieces from succulents that she arranges on basic brass pieces with a special floral-safe adhesive.
She sources all the plants used in her pieces from a small, family-owned greenhouse in her hometown of Ann Arbor, Michigan and hand-selects each succulent for her jewelry.
She says that the succulents will look like new for about a week and tend to last between one and three weeks at their best. But when you’re ready to disassemble your piece, you can easily transplant the succulents to a terrarium and continue to let them grow — a message she especially loves when her clients order her jewelry for weddings. She says you can then re-wear the brass bases if you carefully sand off any remaining adhesive.
McLeary offers a variety of jewelry, including headbands, necklaces, rings, earrings and bracelets. Other accessories include boutonnieres, corsages and even sashes. Each piece can be custom made with certain shades of green, added pops of purple, and even living flowers in more detailed pieces.
From delicate rings to bolder statement necklaces, McLeary’s unique jewelry work is the stuff of Pinterest wedding dreams and offers a stunning twist on traditional floral arrangements.
Prices range from $22 to $288 depending on the size and intricacy of the design. Orders can be placed on McLeary’s Etsy page.
