Kay Felder makes first 3-pointer of preseason, starts against Atlanta Hawks (video)
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue said he was using Monday’s preseason game against the Atlanta Hawks as an audition.
While rookie point guard Kay Felder, who started in Kyrie Irving’s place, appears to be a near-lock to make the squad, the third preseason game also provides him a chance to prove he deserves the backup point guard spot.
Felder got off to a quick start. He scored nine points in the first nine minutes. He also made his first 3-pointer.

The outside shot falling is a welcomed sight for the diminutive point guard, as it’s an area Lue talked about recently.
“I definitely think he can get better as a shooter. He knows that,” Lue said. “Just shooting the ball with confidence. He can make shots. Right now the speed of getting to the paint and getting downhill, it’s a little different game now than in college. ou’ve got to be able to take your pullups and take your floaters because when you get all the way to the basket, there’s a lot of big guys in there waiting for you. He understands that, but I don’t see that stopping him from playing.”
