Off-duty crossing guard hears child scream, rescues 8-year-old girl from a dangerous kidnapper
Some super heroes come in small packages. Adrian Young, a school crossing guard, had just finished her shift at Alexandria Elementary School in Los Angeles when she heard a scream.
“She was like ‘Please don’t let her take me. I don’t know her. She’s not my mom,’” Young said. After hearing that statement, Young’s mother instincts kicked in and she rushed over.

“I just told her to grab onto me as tight as she could, and I held onto her and the lady just began to attack me, so I just thought about attacking her to make sure she can’t take this little girl,” Young said.
At just 4’8″, this lady, who’s been a crossing guard for 14 years, saved this little girls life. It was a miraculous save because on that day, Young’s shift was already over. For some random reason, Young stayed at the schools grounds for a little longer and that was when everything happened.

“I’m very grateful for all the accolades, but I just did what I felt was right,” said Young, who is a mother herself. “I felt that if it was my child, I would want someone to protect her. I couldn’t see myself let that little girl be taken”
Thanks to the description from Young and the child, the perpetrator, 50 year old Maria Ramirez, was apprehended and is now being held on $100,000 bail.
At a public event last week, Los Angeles City Council Member Mitch O’Farrell honored Young for her heroism. “Sometimes superheroes come in small packages,” O’Farrell said. “Adrian Young prevented a tragedy because of her diligence, training, awareness, and just because she cares so much about children, she prevented what could’ve been a kidnapping of a child.”

The school also honored Young for her heroism by hosting a surprise ceremony. At the ceremony, the girl’s mother approached Young and said she was very thankful for her actions. She said, “If it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t know where my daughter would be.”

What a story to hear about. An amazing feat of heroism coming from a caring lady. Her actions not only saved this child, but also prevented this kidnapper from harming other children.
