Holly Willoughby gets the giggles midway through serious interview with a CLOWN and BATMAN

A clown, Batman and two This Morning presenters caused much hilarity on the show today.

It may sound like the beginning of a terrible joke, but Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield could barely contain their giggles during a serious interview on the recent clown craze terrorising the nation .

They had brought in real-life clown Tommy, to speak about the amazing charity work he had done for youngsters and revealed he had collectively raised a staggering £190,000.

Of course Phil and Holly congratulated the colourful character for his amazing achievement and wanted to know what he thought of the craze that had come over from America.

“This is absolutely ridiculous. They don’t realise how dangerous it is. If they frighten a child. That child could die out of a heart attack,” he said.

The presenters then welcomed another guest via video link, Batman, aka Gary Bedford, who has been helping out frightened children in Cumbria.

But the moment the pair appeared on screen at the same time Holly creased into uncontrollable fits of laughter.

Phil had to apologise for Holly’s behaviour but then ended up laughing himself: “This is a really serious subject! We don’t normally do this in serious items,” he said.

* This Morning is on weekdays, ITV at 10.30am
