Emilia Clarke confesses she relied on VODKA to get her through naked Game of Thrones scenes

They were scenes shocking enough to make any actor a little uneasy.

And Emilia Clarke has confessed she needed a little Dutch courage to help her strip off in Game of Thrones.

The 29-year-old beauty, who stars as Daenerys Targaryen, relied on alcohol and some decent lighting for her famous nude scenes in season six of the hit TV series.

She shared: “All I needed was vodka and some flattering lighting and I was ready.”

Emilia said the scenes were “empowering”

The London-born actress – who had previously signed a no-nudity clause – said she found one particular nude scene to be “empowering”, when her on-screen character Daenerys walked through an inferno to emerge naked.

“It was just a wonderful, strong moment I wanted to own, a real empowering, girl-power wow scene,” she said.

“I was so thrilled with it. It’s not a sexy scene, she’s not naked for no reason, it’s not gratuitous. She’s naked because she’s just destroyed her enemies in this almighty blaze after they underestimated her.

“She played her trump card – how could I say no?”

She emerged from a wall of flames naked

Emilia said she has no qualms with appearing nude on screen, providing it adds to the narrative of the show or movie.

The brunette beauty told The Sun on Sunday: “If a nude scene forwards a story or is shot in a way that adds insight into characters, I’m perfectly fine with it.

“Sometimes explicit scenes are required and make sense for the characters or story, as they do in Westeros. If it’s gratuitous then I will discuss with a director on how to make it more subtle.”

Emilia also revealed she declined the chance to have a body double take her place in a recent nude scene, insisting she is proud of her figure.

She explained: “This is all me, all proud, all strong. That ain’t no body double. I’m just feeling genuinely happy I said yes.”

During an appearance on The Graham Norton show, the stunner revealed she watched the naked scenes with her parents.
